" 3.0 out of 5 stars Much less than what I hoped for, but still essential, August 21, 2009
By wahoo mike (Frederick, MD) - See all my reviews
I expected this book to be well-organized and very helpful. It is fairly thick and certainly contains some very good review material in it. Especially biology and chemistry material. However, there are very brief descriptions on many concepts that require more in-depth explanations. A lot of the chemistry equations weren't explained too well, for instance. As I understand that only so much material can fit in one book, this is acceptable.
What is entirely unacceptable is that many of the questions, both practice Q's and questions in the final exam (a ton in the math portion) have severe typos that cause the questions to be unanswerable. I felt uncomfortable with the severe amount of typos. It made me wonder whether some of the answer key had typos too, which would lead me to misgrade my answers. Also, the answer sheet lacks choice E on all questions on the exam that have choices A-E. This book is completely amateur for these reasons.
Also, the organic chem section is completely lacking. "

A Review

I have dealt with many Kodak camera products. I cannot say they are the best, and most well constructed electronics. I have repeatedly had problems with the lens. The most recent problem was the camera would not stay on, no matter how much battery life their was. Their service department was great though. They had the camera fixed and back to us in 5 days and it has worked fine since. We lost our original charger cable and have recently ordered the travel charger kit and it works great. I know that when i am on vacation it is very convenient to have a travel charger for the car and the wall outlet, and at a great price.

The Debt Gazette

The Debt Gazette is an online publication discussing the debts of people in america. The majority is the debts and financial indescresions of celebrities, or well know sports figures and socialites in america. They also give Credit Card Advice as well as personal debt and IRS debt. In my humble opinion this is a fantstic idea for a website. Although the sources of the reporting and figures used may be a little sketchy, in this difficult economic times, any insight on debt and how to take control of your own finances is welcomed. At the Debt Gazette, it hits on everything from which cities have the most debt, to common credit mistakes, as well as how to deal with the IRS. However, the obviously most intrigueing discussions are of celebrities. It is nice to know that even if you are a high paid celebrity, nobodies money is safe. Financial education is the key no matter what playing field you are on and the Debt Gazette brings that knowledge.

The most recent story on Lenny Dykstra is fantastic. It is unfortunate to see a man who many kids idolized fall to such peril. But it gives a good understanding of how quickly and badly things can go without proper financial discipline. The article also has some subtle hints at possibly bad character and morals leading to his demise. These types of things seem to be happening all to often. Ahh the life of a celebrity, its like they say, "More money, More problems."

3.0 out of 5 stars Flip Ultra HD vs. Flip MinoHD, May 7, 2009
By Jeff "Jeff" (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
I previously owned the Flip MinoHD so this review is based on a comparison between the Flip MinoHD and the new Flip UltraHD.

After reading about the Flip UltraHD's addition of an HDMI output, larger screen, and longer battery life I decided to sell my 4 month old Flip MinoHD and purchase the Flip UltraHD. Since the MinoHD is very sleek and diminutive in size, my first reaction to the UltraHD was that it was quite a bit larger and bulkier to hold, and has taken some time to get used to. However, unless you've used a MinoHD the larger size of the UlraHD will probably be less noticeable. I found the camera controls on the UltraHD to be slightly easier to operate vs. the touch sensitive buttons on the MinoHD. As far as video quality between the two, I compared two different videos and both are about the same, however, the colors appear to be slightly more vibrant with the UltraHD.

If you are trying to decide which one to purchase, if maximum portability is important to you than the MinoHD is the better choice. Otherwise, if you're looking compact camcorder with more features (HDMI output, replaceable batteries, longer record time) then you can't go wrong with the UltraHD.

My ultimate wish is for Pure Digital/Cisco to introduce a MinoHD with all of same functionality as the UltraHD. Until then, the UltraHD is the all-around better choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars 17 Again, May 2, 2009
By Chamberlain (Palo Alto, CA) - See all my reviews

So when I was 17 (and convinced that I would someday be famous) I really wanted a video camcorder to try my hand at making movies, or to film myself to see whether I had what it took to be a TV reporter, but never could justifying spending $500+ on one. Over the years I moved onto other tech cravings and ambitions. Then last year a friend showed me the Flip Mino - and I had to have one. It was super easy to use and fun, and I started getting great videos of my own kids - and captured moments that otherwise would have been fleeting, including my youngest child's first steps. I wish this had been around when I was a kid. Anyway, the Mino is great, but it's tiny tiny tiny. That's convenient when it comes to having a camcorder on you at all times, or when trying to get into events that prohibit cameras, and the screen is really small. So I just picked up this new Flip - the Ultra HD. The screen is wonderfully large. It comes with a rechargeable AA battery back, which works through the USB, but it looks like you can throw in regular AA batteries in a pinch. Sound quality is great, video seems even better than the Mino. Only drawback with both the Mino and Ultra is you have to keep your hand steady when filming - but I find that easier to do with the Ultra than the Mino. Also, it's not ideal for filming kids' concerts, because the zoom is only 2x. But for capturing otherwise fleeting moments in great quality, the Ultra HD is now my standby. The software that comes with it makes it easy to email videos to family and friends, or to upload a video to Flickr or wherever. Bottom line is I've been carrying this thing around nonstop since I got it. Hasn't made me famous yet, but I love my Ultra.

Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Light Gray) Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Di

By Sidney G. Mcdaniel (Brandon, MS) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought the SD110 (3.2MP) back in 2004 and decided it was time to upgrade this year as it was showing some age. The latest version of that same line is the SD1200. I have had it for a few weeks now and have a few observations. The SD1200 is much faster from the time you turn it on until it is ready to shoot as compared to the SD110. Next, the screen is far better than the one on the SD110. Very bright and readable even in sunlight. The camera itself is smaller than the SD110 as you might expect but does feel a little cheaper. So far I have taken the SD1200 to three main events. A birthday party, K-4 graduation, backyard play time. The birthday part pictures did not turn out well in automatic mode. We were indoors (Pump-it-up) and the lighting was probably not the best. The images were blurry for the most part. I had the same issue at the second event (K-4 graduation) but this time I switched to manual mode and used the "indoor" setting. This greatly improved the picture. Finally, the outdoor shots turned out looking wonderful in automatic mode. With the SD110 the automatic mode was always better than any of the manual settings. It seems with the SD1200 that is not the case. I will continue to explore the settings/features of the camera. I was expecting the SD1200 to be far superior to my 5 year old SD110 but so far the pictures themselves have not turned out markedly
better.

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to use, nice and slender, May 6, 2009
By Fiddlin' Mommy (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
I purchased this camera as a replacement for an older Canon powershot that had been dropped 1 too many times.

I love the improved shutter lag time. (still has one but it is better!) The camera comes on quickly, after you have taken a photo, there is not a long wait before you can take another. I was able to easily capture my busy 3 and 4 year old kids in motion without blur (this is HUGE!).

The Auto mode is easy to use and so far has taken wonderful photos. I can not speak to the software that came with the camera as I always use picasa to tweak photos and I use the software with Shutterfly to crop or remove redeye before printing them.

On a side note, the SD cards have really come down in price!

Watchmen (Director's Cut) (Amazon Digital Bundle + Digital Copy and BD-Live) [Blu-ray] (2009)

Everybody's favorite graphic novel comes to the screen (after years of rumors and false starts), less a roaring work of adaptation than a respectful and faithful take on a radical original. Watchmen is set in the mid-1980s, a time of increased nuclear tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, as Richard Nixon is enjoying his fifth term as president and the world's superheroes have been forcibly retired. (As you can probably tell, the mix of authentic history and alternate reality is heady.) Things begin with a bang: the mysterious high-rise murder of the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a masked hero with a checkered past, puts the rest of the retired superhero community on alert. The credits sequence, a series of tableaux that wittily catches us up on crime-fighting backstory, actually turns out to be the high point of the movie. Thereafter we meet the other caped and hooded avengers: the furious Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), the inexplicably naked Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup, amidst much blue-skinned, genital-swinging digital work), Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman), Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode). The corkscrewing storytelling, which worked well in the comic book, gives the movie the strange sense of never quite getting in gear, even as some of the episodes are arresting. Director Zack Snyder (300) doesn't try to approximate the electric impact of the original (written by Alan Moore--who declined to be credited on the movie--and illustrated by Dave Gibbons) but retains careful fidelity to his source material. That doesn't feel right, even with the generally enjoyable roll-out of anecdotes. Even less forgivable is the blah acting, excepting Jeffrey Dean Morgan (lusty) and Patrick Wilson (mellow). Watchmen certainly fills the eyes, although less so the ears: the song choices are regrettable, especially during an embarrassing mid-air coupling between Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II as they unite their--ah--Roman numerals. In the end it feels as though a huge work of transcription has been successfully completed, which isn't the same as making a full-blooded movie experience. --Robert Horton

Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GSDHC6

With most point and shoot digital cameras quickly climbing the megapixel ladder, 6,8, and even 10 megapixel ratings are beginning to be commonplace. With Transcend SDHC cards, you can keep up with the larger files these high resolution cameras produce. With 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB capacities, you can store more photos without having to delete old photos on the card before you have the chance to save them to a PC or print them out.

Store More of Everything
The larger capacities of SDHC cards make them more versatile than ever. Use them in all your mobile devices that support the SDHC standard. All that is required is an SDHC compatible slot or reader. SDHC is an extension of the original SD standard that enables capacities greater than 2 GB. It uses the same physical form factor as SD, but SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices. Standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices (backward compatible).

Enjoy Faster Transfer Speeds
Basic SD cards transfer data up to six times (6x) the data rate of the standard CD-ROM speed (900 kB/s). Transcend SDHC class 6 cards offer a minimum of 6 MB/s write speeds under the most demanding storage conditions. Some cameras require a high speed card to be able to record video smoothly or capture multiple still photographs in rapid succession. Check your device for maximum compatibility for your intended usage patterns.

Features

* Fully compatible with SD 2.0 Standards
* SDHC Class 6 compliant
* Compatible with all SDHC-labeled host devices (not compatible with standard SD)
* Easy to use, plug-and-play operation
* Built-in Error Correcting Code (ECC) to detect and correct transfer errors
* Complies with Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) portable device requirements
* Supports Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM)
* Allows In System Programming (ISP) for updating firmware
* Supports auto-standby, power-off and sleep modes
* Mechanical write-protection switch
* RoHS compliant
* Lifetime Warranty

Ensure Your Device is SDHC Compatible
SDHC devices can use both older SD cards and SDHC (high capacity) cards. However older cameras and other devices that were released before the SDHC standard may not support the new SDHC cards. Please check your device documentation to verify compatibility before purchase. If your device is fairly new or states support for 4 GB or greater SD cards, then you already have SDHC support.

Digital Camera Storage Capacity Table
Memory cards should be purchased according to how high the resolution or DPI (dots per inch) of your digital camera is (i.e. how many megapixels it has), and how many pictures you plan on taking at a time. Transcend has provided the following graph to assist you in buying an appropriate capacity card for your camera:

Storage Capacity Camera Type / Approximate Number of Pictures
2 MP 3 MP 4 MP 5 MP 6 MP 8 MP 10 MP
4 GB 4550 3412 2048 1638 1280 1048 816
8 GB 9100 6824 4096 3276 2560 2096 1632

*The "File size" represented here assumes that the highest resolution (DPI) your camera supports is used and that pictures are stored in standard JPEG format. The actual number of pictures you can take will vary depending on your digital camera's resolution and compression settings, composition (complexity) of the images taken, as well as lighting and exposure factors.

Product Description
SDHC (SD High-Capacity) is the new generation of SD cards (Version 2.0). Formatted in FAT32, SDHC cards reach a maximum capacity of 32GB and can fulfill the high-capacity demand of the new SDHC devices such as Casio Exilim Z1000/Z600/S600 cameras, Panasonic DMC-L1 camera, and HP printer A/B. Now you can enjoy a high-quality digital life and store all of your MP3 music files, high-resolution pictures, and video clips in your SDHC card.

Product summary

The good: The Palm Pre's multitasking capabilities and notifications system are unparalleled. The smartphone features a vibrant display with multitouch functionality as well as a solid Web browser and good multimedia integration. The Pre offered good call quality and wireless options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The bad: The Pre's keyboard is cramped. Battery life drains quickly and the smartphone can be sluggish at times. Lacks expansion slot, video-recording capabilities, onscreen keyboard, and Flash support. The Pre App Catalog is still in beta with a limited number of titles.

The bottom line: Despite some missing features and performance issues that make it less than ideal for on-the-go professionals, the Palm Pre offers gadget lovers and consumers well-integrated features and unparalled multitasking capabilities. The hardware could be better, but more importantly, Palm has developed a solid OS that not only rivals the competition but also sets a new standard in the way smartphones handle tasks and manage information.

Hot Water Lobster!!

How Long does it take for hot water to get to your faucet or shower? A lot of precious water is wasted down the drain while waiting for hot water. Even worse is The cost to heat the cold replacement water, which enters your house at ground temperature.

HOW IT WORKS!
When the water in your hot water pipe and the Hot Water Lobster control valve cools below the user adjustable temperature (77-149 degrees F), the thermal materials within the Hot Water Lobster control valve contract, and silently open the valve. Thermal convection within your hot
water tank naturally circulates the cooled water through your existing cold water pipes and back to the hot water tank for reheating. Your existing hot water tank now uses less energy reheating warm water instead of cold ground temperature water. When fresh hot water enters your hot water pipe and the Hot Water Lobster control valve, the valve automatically closes. This maintains hot water at the control valve without wasting water or energy. Turn on your faucet or shower and you get instant hot water. When you mount the Hot Water Lobster instant hot water control valve in the fixture furthest from your hot water tank (as shown in the installation diagram) all other fixtures in your house will also have faster hot water.

NO ELECTRICITY NECESSARY!
The Hot Water Lobster is all mechanical and designed to provide an electricity free solution to maintain hot water at the tap. This makes installation a snap (in less than 10 minutes). Other hot water solutions require the use of electricity and pumps that make installation
difficult and the pumps are often noisy.

Don't let a Stroke happen to you!!

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S. T. R.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital -
(at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this tells it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?

    Multi Game Table

A current Review of Deca Drome 10-in-1 Multi Game Table....
The table came packed very nicely, and was fairly easy to assemble. I did most myself and only needed another person when I was assembling the foosball portion of the table.

From the picture, I thought that the foosball table would be the base and everything else would go on top (how that would have worked for the air hockey is beyond me - but I didn't think of that.) However, in reality - the air hockey table is the base and you have to lift the foosball portion of the table off and on to play the other games. So, this is a bit of an issue since I am the only adult in my home and have to get this thing on and off by myself basically...

The other surprising thing is that the table is very short without the foosball table on top... It is ok for children, but anyone over 4 feet will find this to be kind of low. I have to play with my children on my knees basically...

It is a fairly sturdy table, but I did think it was strange that the levelers for the legs are made of plastic - as are the support bars which are not held in by any screws...

And, last but not least... it doesn't come with any ping pong balls for the table tennis... Everything else was enclosed, but not those...

The kids are having fun with it, and that is what I wanted - so, it is serving it's purpose... it is just a little different than I expected. If I had known I would have to lift the foosball portion on and off - I might have looked for something else - but, maybe they all do that...
